Roofers in Arkansas: $22.01 an hour on average, 21% below the national mean. Range from homeowners who hired a professional (2021 to 2023, American Housing Survey 2023), in August 2026 dollars; permits, tear-off of unusual materials, structural repairs and local surcharges vary job to job. How this is calculated.
Most Arkansas homeowners pay around $11,010 for a professional roof replacement, and the middle half of jobs costs $6,780 to $16,920, below the national median of $11,450. Two pieces of data explain the discount. The West South Central division, which Arkansas shares with Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, reported prices slightly under the national level in the 2023 American Housing Survey. And Arkansas roofers earned a mean of $22.01 an hour in May 2025, 21% under the national $27.95 and the second lowest of the 51 jurisdictions. Ice is the local twist. FEMA's National Risk Index rates expected annual ice storm losses to Arkansas buildings Very High, around $122 million a year, with tornado losses rated Relatively High. For a small home of 1,000 to 1,499 sq ft, the estimate is $9,470; a house of 3,000 to 3,999 sq ft reaches $15,410. Jobs above $2,000 require a state registration.
Arkansas tops the country for ice storm losses
The FEMA National Risk Index (December 2025) assigns Arkansas expected annual ice storm losses to buildings of about $122 million, the largest of any state, with a score of 100. Winter weather adds a rating of Relatively High, and tornadoes contribute roughly $91 million a year. Hail, often the headline elsewhere in the region, is rated Relatively Low.
Ice does its damage through weight and through trees and limbs falling on the roof, and through meltwater backing up under shingles at the eaves. When comparing Arkansas bids, check what each one says about the membrane along the lower edge of the roof and about gutters and fascia that may need work at the same time. Those lines explain a good part of the spread between two otherwise similar quotes. A crew that only replaces shingles and ignores a sagging gutter line may leave the weakest point of the roof untouched, which is why the cheapest Arkansas bid is not always the lowest cost over the next few winters.
Low wages, modest savings
Arkansas roofers averaged $22.01 an hour, against $25.38 in Louisiana and $23.61 in Oklahoma. Labor is only one slice of a contractor's revenue, so a pay gap this size cuts the price by a few hundred dollars rather than a few thousand. For a house of 3,000 to 3,999 sq ft, the Arkansas estimate is $15,410, and half of similar jobs land between $11,010 and $21,150.
The residential roofer registration
Arkansas requires a Residential Roofer Registration for roofing jobs over $2,000 in labor and materials, issued through the Residential Committee of the Contractors Licensing Board. It took the place of the old Home Improvement Roofing License on January 1, 2022. Contractors who already hold a Residential Builder or Residential Remodeler license do not need the separate registration. Since nearly every reroof exceeds the threshold, ask which of those credentials the company holds and write it into the contract.
