Roofers in Oklahoma: $23.61 an hour on average, 16% below the national mean. Range from homeowners who hired a professional (2021 to 2023, American Housing Survey 2023), in August 2026 dollars; permits, tear-off of unusual materials, structural repairs and local surcharges vary job to job. How this is calculated.
A professional roof replacement in Oklahoma costs about $11,200, and half of jobs fall between $6,900 and $17,210, a little under the $11,450 national median. The West South Central division (Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana) reported prices slightly below the national level in the 2023 American Housing Survey. Oklahoma roofers earned a mean of $23.61 an hour in May 2025, according to BLS, under the $27.95 national mean but a bit above Texas, which nudges the estimate up within the division. Weather is relentless. FEMA's National Risk Index rates Oklahoma's expected annual ice storm losses to buildings as Very High, the 2nd largest in the nation, with tornado and strong wind losses rated Relatively High and hail adding more than $112 million a year. Roofing contractors must register with the Construction Industries Board, and a separate Residential Roofing Endorsement is being phased in.
A roofing registration of its own
Many states license roofers only as part of a general contractor credential, or not at all. Oklahoma's Construction Industries Board runs a roofing-specific registration, and under HB 1628 a new Residential Roofing Endorsement will be required. SB 1873 moved the start of the transition to January 1, 2027 and the deadline to obtain the endorsement to January 1, 2028. Until then, the registration is the check to run: ask for the number and look it up with the board before signing.
The residential code is changing as well. The Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission adopted the 2024 edition of the International Residential Code by permanent rule, effective Sep. 14, 2026, replacing the 2018 edition. Whether your reroof needs a permit depends on your city.
Ice, tornadoes and hail on one roof
Add Oklahoma's expected annual losses to buildings from hail, tornadoes, strong wind and ice storms in the FEMA National Risk Index (December 2025) and you reach about $413 million a year. Tornadoes lead at $131 million, then hail at $112 million, ice storms at $96 million and strong wind at $74 million. Wildfire is rated Relatively Moderate.
For a homeowner, that raises the value of documentation. Keep the contract, the product names and photos of the finished roof; after the next storm, those papers speed up any insurance claim and show which warranty applies.
Ice loads deserve a specific question. Ask how the contractor handles gutters and the first courses at the eaves, where glaze and refreezing cause the most trouble, and whether drip edge and an ice and water membrane are included in the base price or quoted as extras. In a state where hail and ice both return, the cheapest bid often omits those lines.
What Oklahoma wages do to the bill
Oklahoma roofers at $23.61 earn more than Texas ($22.69) and Arkansas ($22.01) but less than Kansas ($25.66). Since the calculator moves only the labor share to state pay, the typical Oklahoma roof comes out just $110 above the Texas estimate, even though both share a division. On 3,000 to 3,999 sq ft, the Oklahoma estimate climbs to $15,680, with most jobs from $11,200 to $21,520; 1,000 to 1,499 sq ft sits near $9,630.
